If allergies have become a serious problem with members of your family and the side effects and symptoms are getting annoying, there are some things around your house you can change to try to help get relief. You may not realize that you aren't cleaning the right way, or that there are pollutants already in your home that you're overlooking. Here are a few different things you'll want to consider doing to help with the allergies.

Duct Cleaning

Ducts can be lined with anything from rodent or insect feces and urine to dust, dander and other allergens. These circulating irritants could be causing a lot of the allergy problems around the house, and you can have the ducts professionally cleaned. When the duct professionals come in to do the cleaning, find a service that uses a machine that has a collection bag that sits outside of the house, so you don't get any overflow or access debris compiling in one area of the house.

Air Purification Machines

Air purification machines throughout the house can help prevent dust and allergens from settling in fabrics like mattresses and the carpeting and will help prevent airborne allergens from circulating. These machines also come with a humidifying or dehumidifying option, so you can control the moisture levels in the house. The HVAC company may be able to install a unit to your furnace, depending on the model.

Regular Carpet Cleaning

Carpeting is a common source for allergens, and removing it is the most ideal situation for people with allergies. If you aren't going to take out your carpets, regular cleaning with anti-allergen and anti-microbial cleaning agents are the best. You can schedule the professional carpet cleaners to come in regularly, and this is going to help your carpets look, feel and smell new over time. If you do decide to replace the carpeting, make sure to replace the padding where many allergens like mold or mildew could be hiding.

If people in your home are struggling and suffering with allergies regularly and you hate having to distribute daily medications for the symptoms, it's time to try to eliminate the source of the allergies around the house. There are many seasonal allergies that can't be avoided, but you at least want to try to cut out all the allergens in your home, so you can go to bed without worrying about sniffling, eye itching and more.
